An eye for an eye . . .

Detective Bethany Smith is looking at a map that was delivered to the police station. On the map is a dot that marks a spot where a body is buried. It’s on Shadwell Hill.

Bethany and her team race to the scene and discover a freshly dug mound in a forested area.

The mound contains the broken body of sixty-five-year-old Margaret Allthrop, a distant royal and local celebrity. But her burial was anything but regal . . .

Margaret has a red gash on her face and is missing not only an eye, but part of her posterior.

Days later, another map and a letter are delivered to the station:
