At The Reverie; a tearoom where magick coats the walls, tabletops, and scones, silverwitch Oriana Thistle allows people to relive their fondest memories by recreating recipes connected to their taste. Her abilities keep the family business afloat, yet her mother worries that Ori is so focused on letting others enjoy their memories that she hasn’t been making her own. Before she leaves on a trip to celebrate the coronation of a new royal, her mother gives Ori a list of tasks: reduce her workload, create a new menu that bridges the traditional items customers expect with the modernity Ori desires, and the big one: write a recipe that represents who she is and what she wants to do with her life. If she can do all of that, she can run the tearoom her own way, something Ori has wanted from the moment she could pick up a whisk.
But not even hours after her mother leaves, a mysterious boy arrives desperately seeking help. Never one to turn away someone in need, especially another silverwitch, she offers him refuge. Yet once he shares his story with her, Ori quickly realizes she's out of her depth. Taro Isamu broke the most sacred rules of silvercraft: when memory-walking with a client, if you find an absence in it, do not try to fill it in or engage it: there’s a chance you may encounter a Remnant––someone purposely forgotten. Taro engaged, allowing the Remnant to attach to his magick, and slowly drain it until there’s nothing left.
Helping Taro will take time and energy Ori doesn’t have and worse, he's wholly distracting; powerful if hapless, talented if disastrous, and far too pretty for his own good. But she can’t say no and she has an unsettling feeling that they were meant to meet, that perhaps his Remnant holds the key to her family and their forgotten past. So they strike a deal; Ori will find a solution if Taro assists with her completing the tasks. Soon, though, what begins as a reluctant friendship becomes something far more memorable and even more delicious.
