In this new mystery from the author of The Case of the 2nd S&eacuteance, professor/paranormal detective John Darnell teams up with George Bernard Shaw to track down a murderer whose crimes bear a disturbing resemblance to Jack the Ripper's.

From the Author

Jack the Ripper! Just his name alone can send shivers up the spine. In 1917 London, a series of murders are hauntingly similar to the vicious killings by Jack the Ripper in 1888. Is it a copy-cat killer? A dark, ghostly figure lurks on the streets of the Whitechapel district, where the Ripper's killings occurred, and a prostitute is murdered there, in the Ripper manner. Scotland Yard calls in Professor John Darnell, the world's first and only paranormal detective to investigate the ghost sightings, and he is drawn deeply into the mystery. Other Ripper-type killings are committed in fashionable parts of London, and Darnell knows he must lay a trap to catch the elusive killer. "The Case of The Ripper's Revenge" is the fourth in the John Darnell Mystery Series, set in the early 1900's, when the public was intrigued with paranormal phenomena and sightings and seances. In the story, playwright George Bernard Shaw aids Darnell in his dangerous plan.

About the Author

Sam McCarver has had a lifelong interest in history and mystery, going back to his early readings of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories and Agatha Christie's mysteries. He writes "history-mysteries," incorporating real people of the era, such as literary and political figures, into his fictional stories. The first of his Darnell mysteries, "The Case of Cabin 13," was set on the Titanic in 1912. In it, Captain E.J. Smith and Chairman Bruce Ismay employ him to solve the mystery of three suicides in cabin 13 on other White Star Line ships. He meets and falls in love with his future wife, Penny. She becomes friends with Madeleine Astor, young wife of multi-millionnaire John Jacob Astor IV. On the Orient Express in 1914, in "The Case of Compartment 7," Darnell and Penny take a delayed honeymoon while he investigates sightings of a woman's bloody apparition in compartment 7. Aboard the train are Agatha Miller, soon to be Christie when she marries, Prince Carol II, and the infamous spy, Mata Hari. In the third book, in London's dark world of psychics in 1916, in "The Case of The 2nd Seance," Darnell works with Arthur Conan Doyle, searching for Prime Minister Lloyd George's teen-aged daughter, who vanished during a seance, and solving a mysterious murder.
