Kin Oung was born in 1923 in Rangoon, Burma, to Major-General Tun Hla Oung and Daw Kin Kin E, and is married to Patricia Thaung Sein (nee Khin Khin Sein). They have two sons and now live in Canberra, Australia. He held commissions in the British and Burmese Naval Forces and later followed a career in commercial ocean shipping as a company director in Burma, and then in senior executive positions in Thailand, Singapore, U.S.A., and other countries. Kin Oung is active in Australian and international organisations working for the restoration of democracy in Burma, and is the first representative in Australia of the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma. He is presently a patron of the Committee for Restoration of Democracy in Burma (Australia), and the patron of CRDB International.
