Joseph Roger Louis Léveillé divides his time between Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba country. Retired from Radio-Canada national television, where he was a journalist, he produced thirty author and artist profiles. He published thirty books of poetry, fiction, and essays in Canada and abroad. He is the most widely-reviewed contemporary, western Canadian, Francophone author. An international symposium was held on his work in 2005.

Joseph has won numerous literary awards, including: Manitoba Lifetime Writing And Publishing Award. "Le soleil du lac qui se couche" / "The Setting Lake Sun" received broad accolades, including: winner of Prix Champlain, Prix Litéraire Rue-Deschambault, John Glasco Translation Very Honourable Mention, and was short-listed for Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award.
