Luciano Violante is an italian politic, writer and university professor. Born in Etipia ( Dire Daua) on 25 September 1941, his life started in a hard way. The communist canvas of his father, a journalist, pulled in fact the fascist regime to force the whole family to emigrate and being internated in a prison camp.

After the release, happened in 1943, and after the end of the second world war, the family moved to Rutigliano, a township of Bari. Here, the young Luciano can obtain his degree in law in 1963 and start, after six year, his career as magistrate and univesity teacher in various istitute.

Joined the Italian Parliament, he strenuous fight the mafia's influence on the state becoming president of the Italian anti-mafia commission from 1992 to 1994 and collecting the important evidences from Tommaso Buscetta discovering the involvement of organized crime in politic deals.

On 10 May 1996, he is appointed President of deputies's Camera on Parliament and, on 13 May 2001 he is president of the party " Democratici di Sinistra- l'Ulivo".
