Laura Honkasalo is Finnish writer and journalist who lives in Helsinki. She studied at the Kallio high school of performing arts and graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1999 as Master of Philosophy majoring in art history. She has also studied in Trinity College in Dublin and completed Master of Arts degree in literature at the University of Kent.

Honkasalo has practiced writing since the age of seven and taken part to the Nobelist club at the University of Helsinki. She reads many different types of literature.

Honkasalo doesn't want to become a full time author so she has worked as a journalist in magazines including youth magazine Demi and written regularly also to Sarjainfo magazine. She has also translated Aku Ankka (Donald Duck) comics into Finnish and written manuscripts to comics.

In 2000 Honkasalo got two prizes in competitions. In the WSOY young adult book competition she got the third prize and in the J. H. Erkko short story writing competition the second place. In 2001 she got the Gummerus J. H. Erkko prize.
